About Disability Leadership NZ

Empowering Disabled People to Lead, Influence and Inspire

Disability Leadership NZ was created to encourage disabled people to recognise their strengths, develop confidence and become leaders within their families, communities, workplaces and organisations.

Leadership is not reserved for a select few. Leadership begins when people discover the value of their lived experience, speak up for themselves and contribute to positive change. Disabled people bring unique perspectives, resilience and problem-solving skills that can help build a more inclusive New Zealand. Disability leadership is about ensuring those voices are heard and respected.

Our Vision

We believe in a future where disabled people are represented at every level of society. From community groups and schools to businesses, charities and government, disabled people should have opportunities to participate in leadership and decision-making roles.

Our vision is a New Zealand where lived experience is recognised as a valuable leadership strength and where disabled people are empowered to help shape the future.

Built on Lived Experience

Disability Leadership NZ is part of a wider network of disability-focused websites and resources designed to support disabled people, families and whānau throughout New Zealand.

The website promotes the idea that disability is not a barrier to leadership. Some of the most effective leaders have developed their skills through overcoming challenges, finding solutions, adapting to change and supporting others.

We believe lived experience creates knowledge that cannot be taught in a classroom. That knowledge has value and deserves a place at every decision-making table.

Our Message

Disability Leadership NZ exists to inspire confidence, encourage participation and promote leadership opportunities for disabled people throughout New Zealand.

Every person has strengths. Every person has potential. Every person has a voice worth hearing.

Leadership begins when you recognise the value you bring to the world and choose to use it to make a difference.
